Do you ever get anxious because you feel like your Blackness or culture is being ignored or held against you in the audition room? Ever felt depressed because of the type of roles or lack of roles for people that look like you? Are you grateful for the work, but tired of playing the stereotypes? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these, you are not alone. Black actors often face discrimination and dehumanization in their careers. These things take a toll on mental health. “You want me to do what?” is a workshop designed to give you tools to better understand and cope with the effects of the industry on your mental health and emotions. Learn how to use psychology, mindfulness, and culture to re-discover and preserve your joy in acting.
